The Wretched Raven

The Wretched Raven
One night I found myself alone
lost in dreams of long ago
Thick like syrup, cold with spite
Vacant and devoid of light
My thoughts they teeter, twist, contort
and beat my head I did resort
My essence lonely, bitter so
and no emotion did I show
No raven raps upon my door
my being drowned upon the shore
Of nights I was, but did not live
and dreams upon which I soon did give
Lonely, lost within my mind
no hooks or love for which to find
Ephemeral lightness aloft at rest
an infant terror fills my breast
And with cold heaven's night soon sighs
tales of which I wish were lies
Chronicles of my demise
Filled with hatred, blood and gore
with a chilly whisper “Nevermore”.
I wonder why oh heaven's for
why did it whisper “nevermore”?
Who spoke that uttered haunted word
Perhaps it was that raven bird.
The shadows lunge right from their beds
and feed upon impending dread
Which nibbles, scratches in my head
Oh why shan't I be sooner dead!
The bird, the voice it whispers clear
haunting tales of vast and mere
It breathes its breath cold, down my neck
upon my spine it leaves a peck
I'm scratching at my face, my ears
Oh how to rid my dread and fears!
To which this Devil's cry hath brung
Whom broke my soul and cut my tongue
Oh leave oh wretched fiend galore
and take with you your rage and roar!
Whom crippled me upon the floor
with a silent screaming “Nevermore!”
lost in dreams of long ago
Thick like syrup, cold with spite
Vacant and devoid of light
My thoughts they teeter, twist, contort
and beat my head I did resort
My essence lonely, bitter so
and no emotion did I show
No raven raps upon my door
